Kid craft- Homemade lava lamp

I found this idea off of a few websites. It's such a fun and easy science experiment you can do with kids.

These are the supplies you will need: Water bottle, Vegetable oil, food coloring, and alka-seltzer tablets cut into 1/8ths.

Then, you fill the water bottle with a little bit of water on the bottom. I think I did about an inch. Then you add the Vegetable oil almost all the way full. Let it separate for a second.

Then you add food coloring and wait a second for that to fall to the bottom of the water and for the water to turn the color you picked.

Then you cut up your alka-seltzer tablet in 1/8ths and then put one in at a time and watch what happens!!!

Keep watching....

There you have it!! Your homemade lava lamp! The bubbles only last for as long as the alka-seltzer tablets last. But just keep putting in more of the little pieces of the alka-seltzer tablets and you will get these results every time!

I am so happy you found my blog and in turn I could read and follow your blog! Thank you for your comments that made my day! :) I am going to be teaching second grade for the first time this fall and I think it would be so fun to make these lava lamps with my class in science. I look forward to reading through the rest of your old and new posts!
